A bit about me & where my art comes from…

When I was 5 years old my parents started taking me to art museums in NYC. I’ve haunted museums and art galleries my whole life, frequently in the presence of the works of great masters. My mom painted murals and canvases. My uncle, George Licitra, who was killed in WWII, was a career painter. He had a close relationship and mentorship with the Japanese artist, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, with whom he studied at New York’s Art Students League in the 1940’s.

I studied art in college, and have written museum art exhibition audio tours all over the country for 20 years, working closely with curators and art educators, to interpret paintings for museum visitors. It wasn’t until 2 years ago that I picked up a paintbrush and began making my own personal interpretations. I was encouraged by naive & primitive painters, and therefore knew my new passion could be encouraged by sincerity. I work in acrylic on canvas at a table-top easel, mixing colors in aluminum pans, and using many different-sized brushes.

I am inspired by place. Usually architecture. Places that somehow hold a piece of me…or somehow I want a piece of the place to be with me in my heart. Painting place lets me own it a little. I interpret a place into a picture poem.

I have shown at Nashville’s Germantown Art Crawl and have an upcoming solo exhibition at Nashville’s JCC, and in Ragusa, Italy.
